How I Became My Judgement

Updated: Nov 25, 2018

Hey y'all! I'm currently on my way home from a quick weekend in Texas and I thought "how better to pass the time than to write a blog post?" So here we are.

I've noticed lately that I'm different. In many things yes, but in one was in particular. I worship in a way very different from my friends. I'm very expressive. I like to raise my hands, sway, and close my eyes. During concerts or conferences this is normal. However on Sundays and Wednesdays at my church, it isn't. Most people enjoy worship, they're just more reserved, which is totally fine.  Everyone worships in their own way. But where am I going with this? My rambling brain now takes you back  to January 4 years ago.

I was at Disciple Now at my friend's church , and actually it wasn't even DNOW yet. It was a Wednesday intro night. I wasn't in the youth group at my church yet, so I went with my friend to her church. We began worship, and I noticed a girl in the front who was very expressive. I was a bit weirded out by her, since my church was typically more reserved. I was watching her most of the time rather than paying attention to the worship.

Fast forward four years and I became my judgement. I became the girl who bounces a bit in worship. I became the hand raised. I became the girl I was watching.  When I turned my attention from how others worship to how I worship, I realized how much I love worship music and how much it speaks to me. Some where in those four years I also re-discovered my love for piano. I think God worked through that one girl at DNOW four years ago to show me what worship can be like if you totally put yourself out there with little-to-no thoughts to what others think of you.

Now, I'm not saying that every one has to throw their hands up to get something out of worship. Everyone is different and for some people, just singing the words is enough and that's okay. But my challenge to you is to be conscious of God during worship, not other people. I promise that no matter how you worship, your worship experience will be changed when you focus on God.
